2003 Serena Williams Ph. Cliff Watts “THE IMPORTANT THING
IS TO WIN”
During the Milan Fashion Week, Giorgio Arma-
ni inaugurates in his space in Via Bergognone,
the exhibition “Emotions of the athletic body.”
And tells us how sport has also helped him on
a such competitive and challenging industry as
fashion. “Emotions of the athletic body,” hosted
until next November 27 in his space Arma-
ni-Sylos. Photos, but also a spectacular video,
selected from the archive of Armani from 1985
to the present day and dedicated to the world
of sport, a real emotion for the eyes that spea-
ks of strength, physicality, beauty collected in a
powerful setting that occupies the entire ground
floor of the exhibition space, for the occasion
completely redesigned by the fashion designer
to give greater prominence to the theme. “Sport
has always been a great passion of mine and not
only for the characteristic to shape plastically
male or female body” says Armani. “I think it
represents something more important, as those
qualities that help us to always get better, even
in life. Dedication, selflessness, strength, sacrifi-
ce and perseverance sport is good for body and
spirit, but above all it shows that without com-
mitment you can’t reach any goal”. Personally
selected by Giorgio Armani (but who knows
him well knows that it could not be otherwi-
se, editor’s note), the black and white images
printed on macro sheets finished with concrete
reproduce a glorious path marked by some of
the biggest world-renowned champions, called
by the designer for his advertising campaigns.
“A muscular body is also a challenge for a desi-
gner, combining elegance and beauty over the
power of a body is always a great success”, says
Armani who made the official outfit of the Ita-
lian national team at the Olympic and Paralym-
pic Games of Rio 2016. And talking about the
Olympics, “the retreat of the candidature of
Rome from the 2024 Games is an emotional-
ly sorrow”, adds Armani. “Moreover, Giovanni
Malago, the president of CONI is also a dear
friend. But as an entrepreneur I can understand
(since 2008 Armani is owner of Olimpia Mila-
no, the city basketball team, editor’s note) that
the economic situation of the Capital today,
should be seriously understood and studied,
beyond any emotional aspects”, concludes rea-
ching Diokovic for another photo. Among those
present, instead, in this exhibition, in addition to
an unprecedented selection of Kurt and Marcus
Weston, also appear a series of shots of Aldo
Fallai, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Vange-
lis Kyris and Tom Munro. World champions of
photography, even of fashion. “Because - Arma-
ni tells us that with this exposition he supports
once again Special Olympics, the international
sports organization for people with intellectual
disabilities - the important thing is not to parti-
cipate but win”.
