“NOI ABBIAMO IN MANO LA CHIAVE
DEL FUTURO DELL’UMANITÀ,
MA DOBBIAMO CAPRE IL PRESENTE”.
“Today more than ever, I feel that mankind is one. There are differences in color, language, culture and oppor-
tunity, but the feelings and reactions of all people are similar. We are holding the key to humanity’s future, but
we must understand the present. These photographs show a portion of our present. We can’t afford to look the
other way”. Sebastião Salgado, born in 1944, the Brazilian photographer who in 180 shots testif es to the epic
of mass migration from Africa to the Middle East, passing through Indochina, the Balkans and South America.
He followed “the last of the earth” with the gaze of the photojournalist who questions himself, with human under-
standing, on the fate and strength of humanity to get up and continue the journey.
